We Are Having A Baby
Monday September 10, 2007 – after a week of wondering, the faint pink line of a home pregnancy test made the "wonder" feeling turn into a "we better make a doctors appointment" reaction.
Wednesday September 12, 2007 – I visited the doctor for an official test.
Thursday September 13, 2007 – CONFIRMATION - The words "You are expecting" have never felt so real. I think at this point we were both in shock. We were five weeks pregnant.
October 1, 2007 – The Sickness (Week 8)
Let the unwelcome nausea begin. They call it morning sickness, but this was an all day nausea. I was ill. If the nausea wasn’t hard enough to deal with the entire Thanksgiving weekend I was in bed, sicker than a dog. At one point I told Jonathan that if I threw up one more time to take me to the hospital. Thank God it was a long weekend. Just it time for work Tuesday morning that throwing up subsided (of course, I couldn’t legitimately use a sick day now could I?) The nausea continued until about week 10 – and brushing my teeth… don’t even ask.

Telling the family
Jonathan lets the cat out of the bag and tells his parents the news. An exciting moment for the first time grandparents.

Sister weekend – My sisters back home were coming to visit me and my other sister in Oakville… It was time to tell my family… I called dad before the girls arrived, he was elated to find out the grandchild number 5 was on the way. Next was to tell my sisters… Of course they thought I was joking, but after a bit of convincing, the girls were so happy that another sister was having a baby.

10 week doctor’s appointment – My family doctor explained the idea of genetic testing. This is something we considered briefly, the positive… an early ultrasound… the negative… the test are not 100% accurate and create a bunch of false positives that can be stressful and require further testing.. We spoke with our parents and other family members and decided that this was not necessary for us. Friday November 2, 2007 12 week doctor’s appointment – I HEAR THE BABIES HEARTBEAT. 160 beats per minute. This was the most exciting point so far, I only wish that I would have known, I would have loved Jonathan to experience that moment with me. I also now weigh 148lbs. (my "normal" weight is about 135lbs.) so I am already up 12 lbs..
