At 31 Weeks
This week your baby is about 15 inches (almost 40 centimeters) long and he weighs approximately 3.3 pounds (1500 grams). He's quite large already but not yet developed enough to thrive outside the incubator. His temperature regulation system is not fully developed, so he cannot keep himself warm. Moreover, your baby has not yet built up sufficient resistance and, as a result, if he were living outside of you, he would be sensitive to infections.
My "30 Week" Doctors Appt.
Tuesday morning was my 30 week check-up. I had planned to also do my glucose testing that same morning, you know, kill two birds with one stone. Well the plan was to go to the lab at 9:30am, drink the "orange stuff" they give you, well then you have to wait an hour so I had planned to go to my 10am appt. and then head back to the lab around 10:30am... It all sounded great, right? Well don't I get to the lab and I can't find my health card... there goes that bright idea... Turns out my "pregnancy brain" allowed me to forget it at my OBGYN appt. 2 weeks earlier... needless to say, we'll try to put this "plan" back into action for my 32 week appt. March 25...
Anyways... back to the appt.
Everything was normal... until I got on the scale... I am sure you all recall two weeks earlier this chubby mommy weighting in at 177 lbs.! Well this week I was sure I broke the 180 lbs. mark, but to my surprise I was showing 174 lbs... The nurse said that because I weighted myself at the OBGYN's office there is likely a bit of discrepancy between the two readings... So all I know is my home scale says 170, the OBGYN's says 177 and my family doctors says 174... talk about confusing...
And the baby...
The baby is doing great. His heartbeat is now 150 bpm as opposed to the 160 bpm it had been. The doctor said anything between 120-180 bpm is fine so nothing to worry about there... The doctor also said that the babies head was pointing down, you know "where it should be". I beg to differ because I think I feel it differently... unless it's his bum... hmmmmm.... Anyway, mom and baby are doing great! 9 weeks to go!!! HOLY COW!
Prenatal Class #2
Tuesday was my second prenatal class, I brought one of my girlfriends, Paula. She is also pregnant (2 weeks ahead of me!). There was a lot of useful information. I learned a lot about shopping for baby stuff re: safety. Things to look for when buying a car seat or a crib, this class is very informative, but man, I can see how some new parents could be paranoid with different things that "could" happen.
We also discussed signs of pre-labour... next week is the "video"! Lucky for Jonathan, he's coming to this class for sure! Birth video and all.
Heading Home
Next weekend (Easter weekend) we are heading home for the first time since I got pregnant! I am super excited to show off my growing belly to the family! I can't wait to see everyone. My big sisters and my aunt are having a baby shower for me too. I can't wait to be back home! What a great way to start my 8th month!
I want YOUR comments!
