On my way to the hospital... one last belly picture, 39 weeks and 2 days pregnant.

Welcome to the World Ethan!

I am sure that most of you have heard the wonderful news by now, but I will make the official announcement on my blog.
On Tuesday May 13, 2008 at 5:12 p.m. Jonathan and I welcomed our first child, our son Ethan William Alexander Solomon into the world.
Ethan was 7 lbs .05 oz. and 19 inches long.
Ethan was born at 39 weeks and 2 days gestation. I didn’t even have to go through with my “threats” to trying inducing labour, ha ha ha.
Our lives will be forever changed, I feel a new overwhelming love for our son, it finally feels real. He is here.
And here is how it happened…

I started to get contractions at about 6am Tuesday morning. They were not very intense, I actually thought my blotter was full and the baby was just pressing on it really hard. But after the 10th time I got up to pee before 7am I started to think that maybe these aches were something more.
I got up and had a shower, I was still in disbelief, but my gut was telling me this was something. I told Jon about my hunch but we decided because things were not very intense that he would go to work. I had my 39 week doctor’s appointment at 10 am so we figured we would wait for a professional opinion.
In preparation, in case it was labour I brought the dog out for his walk, then I did the banking, I could have our cable bill be late if I was truly in labour.
By the time I went to my appointment my “aches” were more regular and intense enough for me not to be comfortable sitting when the happened. I mentioned this to my doctor and he suggested an internal examination. So I hope up on the table and doesn’t my water break right there! He then confirmed I was a few centimeters dilated. Because my labour was still in the early stages he decided to call the hospital and see what they thought. With me testing positive for strep they decided to get my in and start the antibiotics right away. So I got to the car and called Jonathan and Kelly Spinelli – my other partner accompanying me into the delivery room.

At the hospital they confirmed that I was 2 cm. dilated and started the IV. Jon and Kelly arrived around 11:30am. By 12:30 I was 4 cm dilated. Around 2 pm I opted for the epidural. At 4 pm I was fully dilated – time to start pushing! An hour later I was holding our son in my arms. He was perfect.
I wanted to thank Kelly for being such an amazing coach. She kept me focused, relaxed, rubbed water on my face, tied my hair back and fed me ice chips… and spilled some on me too ha ha ha…
As for Jonathan, I couldn’t have asked for anyone better. I was there through the entire event. He cut the cord and jumped at the opportunity to hold our son for the first time. I fell in love all over again.

Ethan and I stayed in the hospital until Thursday afternoon. Jonathan was so anxious to show off our little guy that we had to make a pit stop at his work to show the boys.
Welcome Home
We have had Ethan at home for a day now. I thankful to have Jonathan at home, he truly is super dad. He has been doing the laundry, dishes, diaper changes and feedings and walking the dog. I could look at Ethan forever I have so much love for this little guy.
