10 Weeks

Since Ethan was born mommy nicknamed him "Tootie" because, well he toots all the time, our little gas machine! Daddy calls him E-Man, like He-Man.

Anyway, our little Tootie is 10 weeks today. As I mentioned brfore there were a few challenges that I was working on. I have decided that every week I would have an update on our challenges at the bottom of each blog to show where we are at.

Ethan is becoming so much more responsive. He jumps when he ears a loud noise, watches mommy or daddy walk by. He smiles a lot and ever has his own little laugh (that sounds more like a chocking noise, but with a smile and kicking his legs).

This week he has started to rub his eyes when he is tired. He also has a little whimper he uses to tell us he is tired. This week he has also discovered his hands!! He likes to suck on his fist! (see picture below)

This weekend Ethan got a floor map for “tummy time”. It is a mat with a pillow for his chest to rest on. It is meant to help him strengthen his neck and arm muscles. He doesn’t hate it… but he doesn’t seem thrilled about it yet either.

Sunday we attended Ethan’s little buddy Braxton (9 mos) Baptism/Naming Ceremony. We got to hang out with all of his little friends.

On Monday we had an exciting moment. As we had out morning chat over a poopy diaper, Ethan was making his usual “ooh” sounds, when all of a sudden an “ahh” sound came out. I have only heard it that one time so far, but they do say that the vowel sounds are the first to come. So exciting!

Mommy’s Challenges:
Recap:
#1 We are trying to get Ethan to take a bottle so daddy can give mommy a break!
#2 We are trying to get Ethan to enjoy the car rides.
#3 We are trying to get Ethan to sleep in his own bed.

We have been trying for about a week to get Ethan to take the bottle with NO LUCK! It is getting frustrating. We have tried several bottle with different nipple to see if he favoured one over another, but all he does is get frustrated and cry or gag on the nipple. We will continue to try.

As for the car… well he still cries, but I try to get him in the car seat everyday and I even bought a mirror for him to look at himself and a toy to hang from the car seat bar for some entertainment… still no luck.

And finally the bed situation. Ethan only sleeps in his swing or on mommy. So my theory is if we get him off mommy for a few days, he may forget that’s what he wants. So Sunday we moved the swing into the bedroom. After every feeding (and he gets up a lot more at night when he isn’t sleeping on mommy) I try the bassinet several times with little success, so he ended up sleeping most of the night in the swing, with the exception of the 2 hours he slept in the bassinet. Monday we decided to try putting him in his crib in his own room. After several attempts by mommy, daddy finally got Ethan to sleep (in his crib) around midnight. He slept for 3.5 hours – the longest he has slept alone for! I fed him at 3:30am and after about 5 tries got him to sleep in his crib! He slept for 2 hours, ate and again after several tries he slept for another 2 hours until 7:30am. SUCCESS!! We will continue to perfect this art.

So there is light at the end of the tunnel, I guess one success out of three isn’t bad.
