12 Weeks Old!

“I love being a mom!”
I just want to yell it from the roof tops! It is Monday night, about 7:45pm… I am sitting at the computer typing one handed as I am holding my little snuggle bum in the other arm. He is conked out on my shoulder, Mr. Sleepyhead. He’s been in and out of this groggy/sleepy state for the past 2 hours. He is so cuddly when he is like this and he wants nothing more than to be nestled up on mommy or daddy’s chest, I love it! He’s pooped today. We had a busy day of grocery shopping and fresh air, poor little guy is exhausted. Hopefully he’ll be up soon so he isn’t up all night.

This week Ethan and I went walking everyday! He loves the carrier we have for him. The one day the walk was a bit longer and he fell asleep. It is tough this time of year to walk with him. He is too young to wear sunscreen and the heat is unbearable. We usually walk before noon, and stick to the shady parts of the street. I also take advantage of the trails across the street, but then I worry about the mosquitoes biting my little man.

I am always looking for new ways to entertain Ethan. I love just laying him on the bed or floor and playing with his legs and arms… eating his toes, kissing his face off and poking his nose. His smile could light up a room. He also loves to look in the mirror, he smiles at his own reflection and this week he was touching his reflection in the mirror!! I had this bright idea the other day to put together his exersaucer. It took me A REALLY LONG TIME! Those things are ridiculously complicated to put together. Anyway, this one has all the bells an whistles (that require 9 batteries to operate!). I think I was more excited than he was, who am I kidding, he has no idea what it even is, of course I was more excited. Of course he is about 2 months too small for it, so being the “mother of the year” that I am, I stiffed a blanket around him to fill in the extra space! Ethan loved all the noises and lights the new toy emitted. Mommy had to do all of the button pushing, but I know he loved watching (see picture below).

When Ethan and I play, he loves it when I bounce him up and down, he even tries to jump on his own, which of course gave me another brilliant idea… I went online and ordered him a Jolly Jumper with a gift certificate we got from Jon’s work. I know he’ll love it… when he is strong enough.

The highlight of the week… drum roll please… ETHAN TOOK THE BOTTLE LAST NIGHT!!!! I had given up trying a week or so ago, but lat night as I watched him sucking his thumb (which is so cute by the way) a light bulb went off, “This is the same sucking rhythm required to suck on a bottle, so I tried it… without hesitation he drank 2 ounces! WooHoo! Of course I am going to continue breast feeding, but it is a relief to know that daddy can give mommy a break once in awhile!

Well, my arm is officially numb from holding Ethan while I type with my other hand… he is still sleeping, along with the arm holding him… so you’ll forgive me for ending this blog here.

Love you all,
Mommy, Daddy and Ethan
